The History Department are proud to announce our selection as a Beacon School for Holocaust Education. Only one other school in the North East has this status, so we are therefore delighted at the prospect of being involved in such an exciting opportunity.

Beacon Schools serve as dynamic hubs coordinating a network of local schools, helping them to develop confidence and excellence in Holocaust teaching and learning. We will have specialist training by University College London to create an immersive and engaging scheme of work that will allow the students at St Roberts to fully understand and analyse The Holocaust.

As a department we are passionate about the role of democracy, freedom of speech and equality in society. In addition to this, as a Catholic Community we believe it is essential students understand the danger of prejudice and discrimination. Effective studying of The Holocaust can do just this and we are thrilled to receive this status. There will be many exciting opportunities for students to get involved over the next year, watch this space!
