‘Every pupil should have first-hand experiences of the workplace through work visits, work shadowing and/or work experience to help their exploration of career opportunities, and expand their networks.’ Gatsby Framework
Throughout this academic year the vocational leader in school alongside our careers advisor will organise a number of work place visits in carefully selected sectors to support pupil’s in their career choices. Many of the visits are organised in conjunction with local employers and training providers. These opportunities include Work Place Sector Days, Workshops, Business Talks, Tours as well as simulated learning environments.
Some recent visits include: Nissan, Calsonic Kansei, Unipres, Sunderland Royal Hospital, Liebherr Cranes, The Bridges Shopping Centre, Sunderland Software City, Farrans Construction, The Business Innovation Centre (BIC), Gentoo, Sun FM and Accenture.
These visits give a snapshot of what it is like to work within these industries, for a more in-depth experience pupils are encouraged to organise themselves a high quality work placement in Years 10 and Year 12.
Work Experience
If you are currently studying in Year 10, Year 11 or Year 12 you have the opportunity to organise your own high quality work placement this academic year. You should start by thinking about the career or sector you are interested of working within. Next discuss this with your parents, carer, tutor and subject teachers to find out more information. Once you have confirmed your current aspirations, contact local companies requesting a placement opportunity. Your tutor and Mr Green will be available to offer advice during this process.
